UNECE R10 REGULATION

About UNECE R10
UN ECE R10 tests cover a series of tests performed in accordance with the relevant regulation for the evaluation of vehicles in categories L, M, N, O in terms of electromagnetic compatibility.

ECE regulations define cross-border technical regulations for establishing approval or uniform approval procedures for motor vehicles and motor vehicle parts. Automated commercial vehicles are already fully eligible for approval in this respect, but only through appropriate individual measures in the country in which they will be used. What is missing is a set of rules at the international ECE level.

Regulation No. 10 of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UN/ECE) — Covers the uniform provisions regarding the approval of vehicles in terms of electromagnetic compatibility and the tests applied accordingly.

According to UN ECE R10 regulation;
  1. 'Electromagnetic compatibility' means the ability of a vehicle or component(s) or separate technical unit(s) to operate satisfactorily in its electromagnetic environment without introducing intolerable electromagnetic disturbances to anything in that environment.
  2. 'Electromagnetic disturbance' means any electromagnetic phenomenon that may degrade the performance of a vehicle or component(s) or separate technical unit(s) or any other device, equipment unit or system operated in the vicinity of a vehicle. An electromagnetic disturbance can be electromagnetic noise, an undesired signal, or a change in the propagation medium itself.
  3. 'Electromagnetic immunity' means the ability of a vehicle or component(s) or separate technical unit(s) to operate without degradation in performance in the presence of (specified) electromagnetic disturbances containing (specified) radio frequency signals requested from radio transmitters or in the presence of radiated radiation.
  4. 'Electromagnetic medium' means the sum of electromagnetic events that exist in a particular place.
  5. 'Broadband emission' means an emission with a bandwidth greater than the bandwidth of a given measuring device or receiver.
  6. 'Narrowband emission' means an emission with less bandwidth than that of a particular measuring instrument or receiver.
  7. 'Electrical/electronic system' means (an) electrical and/or electronic device(s) or device group(s) with any associated electrical connections that form part of a vehicle but are not intended to be type-approved separately from the vehicle.

Electrical/electronic subassembly (ESA) means an electrical and/or electronic device or group(s) of devices that are intended to be part of a vehicle, along with any associated electrical connections and wiring, that perform one or more specific functions. . An ESA may be approved as a "component" or "separate technical unit (STU)" at the request of a manufacturer or its authorized representative.

Within the scope of electromagnetic compatibility tests of UN ECE R10 vehicles, the following tests are carried out in accordance with the relevant regulation;
  • Measurement method of broadband electromagnetic emissions from vehicles; This test aims to measure broadband emissions produced by electrical or electronic systems (eg ignition system or electric motors) fitted to the vehicle.
  • Measurement method of narrowband electromagnetic emissions from vehicles; This test is designed to measure narrowband electromagnetic emissions that can originate from microprocessor-based systems or other narrowband sources.
  • The method of testing the immunity of vehicles against electromagnetic radiation; This test aims to demonstrate the immunity of vehicle electronic systems. The vehicle will be subject to electromagnetic fields as described in the regulation. The vehicle will be monitored during the tests.
  • Measurement method of broadband electromagnetic emissions from electrical/electronic infrastructure groups; This test is designed to measure broadband electromagnetic emissions from ESAs (eg ignition systems, electric motor, etc.).
  • Measurement method of narrow band electromagnetic emissions emitted from electrical/electronic infrastructure groups; This test is designed to measure narrowband electromagnetic emissions as they can originate from a microprocessor-based system.
  • Test method(s) for immunity to electromagnetic radiation of electrical/electronic subassemblies; ESAs, 3.1 of this Annex. may comply with the requirements of any combination of the following test methods at the manufacturer's discretion, provided that the full frequency range specified in paragraph
  • Immunity to transient currents of electrical/electronic subassemblies and test method(s) for emission emission; This test method should ensure the immunity of the ESAs to conducted transients on the vehicle power supply and limit the transients transmitted from the ESAs to the vehicle power supply.
